Preview:

The Panthers are gunning for their seventh win in a row when they play Canberra in the closest match to call on Sunday afternoon. After being down and out for much of the season, Penrith has risen from the ashes to sit in seventh spot on the table.

The loss of Viliame Kikau to suspension is big for Ivan Cleary’s men, with the second rower a huge reason why they’ve been able to climb out of the bottom four in the past two months. They face a Canberra team that is in the top four after a trio of wins. Josh Papalii is starting at prop, with Sia Soliola shifting to the bench in an otherwise unchanged side that beat Wests 20-12 last week.

These two have played some tremendous matches recently, with their last meeting in Penrith a 40-31 win to the Panthers. In round 8 this season, the Raiders got the better of Penrith 30-12.

The Wolf expects this result to be much closer and while the Raiders have shown themselves to be in good form, they have played in fits and bursts in the past month. They have been a dominant first half team though, racing out to big leads against the Sharks, Eels, Dragons and Tigers, but not being at their best for a full 80 minutes. It’s a step up in opposition this Sunday and the Panthers should edge this one.
