Preview:

The Dogs are in the thick of finals contention after being all but out of it just a month ago. Four wins on the trot has Canterbury in the race for the top eight, but they’ll need to win in Townsville on Thursday night to remain a chance.

A 12-6 win against the Eels in round 23 was their second straight win against top eight opposition and was their ninth win of the season. They enter this match with just one team change, as Jayden Okunbor comes in for the suspended Reimis Smith.

The Cowboys earned a surprise 24-10 win against Penrith last weekend and will be hoping for back to back home wins when they run out this week. Paul Green has named the same starting 17 as a week ago, with club legend Matt Scott to have jersey number 8 retired for this game.

Canterbury has won its past two games agains the Cows, including a 24-12 victory in round 7 this season. They also took the points in their last visit to Townsville in round 6 last season, winning 27-10.

The Dogs have been better than average covering the spread on the road at 6-5, while the Cowboys are just 5-6 against the line at home and 4-7 straight up.

The Wolf is going to back the Dogs as outsiders, with the blue and whites winning their past four matches outright and covering as underdogs.
