Newcastle Knights vs Sydney Roosters Preview

The Newcastle Knights failed to put a dent in the Panthers winning streak last week. The heroics of the round prior weren’t evident in the 24-6 defeat. While slow to start, the Sydney Roosters didn’t have too many problems in getting past the Dragons despite James Tedesco leaving the field after 34 minutes.

Adam O’Brien has named the same 17 for Saturday, however, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Tex Hoy have been named in the reserves. Siosiua Taukeiaho is expected to return for the Roosters but Tedesco may not pass protocols to play in this one. Sam Verrills has once again been named to start at #9.

Tedesco would be a huge loss, but this is still a very good Roosters side. It’s a dodgy matchup for the Knights even with the Roosters injury issues. Newcastle have played with a very direct style all season. Any success has come on the back of Jayden Brailey getting his forwards over the advantage line and giving the always-changing spine time and space to move. They’ll struggle to get up the field against this strong Roosters middle. From there, the Knights lack the creativity outside of Kalyn Ponga to score. The Roosters remain underrated.
