Gold Coast Titans vs Brisbane Broncos Preview

Ah, a Queensland Derby. This one is a little spicier than in recent seasons, too. While the Brisbane Broncos offered plenty of positives despite losing last week, they’re heavy underdogs in this one. The tables have turned after big brother won 18 of the first 23 matches between the two clubs. Now losers of four of the last six Queensland Derbies and up against a hyped-up Gold Coast Titans side, the two competition points aren’t in the Broncos’ bag.

The Titans didn’t justify the hype last week, though. They struggled in every facet of the game and looked nothing like the club that finished 2020 with five consecutive wins. Still, Justin Holbrook is a great coach and has some high-quality talent to work with. It’s somewhat safe to expect an improvement.

Anthony Milford played with great intent last week. You could tell the shackles had come off and he has been given a license to play his natural game. Injuries to teammates and a tough 20 minutes under serious fatigue took some of the shine off his first 40 minutes. He created points and started to look like his old self. With what the Titans are capable of in attack and the questions that remain over Brisbane’s defence (one good game isn’t enough), expect the points to flow on Friday night.
