The Broncos have their backs to the wall ahead of their game in the Shire against Cronulla, as the great club from Queensland has lost three in a row and sit in 14th spot on the table in what is turning out to be a horror season. Their 26-12 loss to Newcastle was almost as bad as their 38-10 thumping by the Eels a week earlier, with their defence shocking. Origin has dealt them a number of selection dilemmas, with Corey Oates, David Fifita, Joe Ofahengaue and Matt Gillett all out, while full back Anthony Milford is suffering from a knee injury and is also sidelined.
The Sharks were woeful in the opening quarter against the Dogs, falling behind 14-0 and unable to chase down the deficit, despite a stellar play in the dying moment by Jack Williams to run 80 metres, with some Chad Townsend butchery giving the Sharks a shock loss. They go into this one as big favourites, with just Wade Graham out through Origin duty.
Cronulla will have to overturn a wretched record against Brisbane, who have won the past five games between the two clubs. Cronulla’s last win at home against the Broncos came in round 9 of their premiership year in 2016. The Wolf can’t make a case for a Broncos side features so many changes and missing an enormous amount of quality. Their poor defence and lack of desire has been evident in their past two losses and with this being their third game on the trot on the road, they will be eager to return home to Suncorp and get some consolation wins to close out their season.
