The Bombers will be looking to push their claims for a top eight spot when they travel to Perth to play the Eagles on Thursday night. The Dons had a comfortable 19 point win against the Hawks in round 13 and controlled the second half, leading by as many as 38 points in the final term. The goal scoring was spread between the forwards, with four players scoring two goals. The Eagles had a bye last round and were thumped by 45 points in Sydney against the Swans as slight favourites.
The Bombers have played this season’s top four and a 6-6 record for them is favourable given their run home. They shocked the Eagles in their only meeting last season in Perth, with a six goal to nil opening quarter setting up a 28 point win for the red and black.
The big disparity between the two sides comes in contested possession, with the Eagles ranking last at 134 per game, with the Bombers sixth at 151 contested possessions per game. In what is likely to be a low scoring game in Perth, The Wolf thinks the Bombers might be able to catch West Coast napping early and build a lead and hang on to win late and spring an upset.
