North Melbourne’s third loss on the trot last weekend to the Eagles has all but ended their finals hopes and they will be hoping to deal the Hawks a big blow when the pair meet on Friday night. After a heartbreaking loss to the Lions, North weren’t up to it against the Eagles, getting thumped by 49 points.
The Hawks’ run of three wins in a row ended at the hands of the red hot Lions in Launceston, as they went down by 27 points. They are just a game behind the eighth placed Crows and will need to bank these four points if they are to truly contend for a finals position, with remaining matches against the Giants, Suns and Eagles.
Hawthorn has won four of its past five against North, including this season’s round 3 meeting by 16 points. In their only clash last season and their most recent at Marvel Stadium, in round 5 last season, it was the Roos who won by 28 points.
The Roos have performed best at Marvel Stadium, where they have won 5 of their 7 games this season. They are 6-3 against the spread under the dome and start this game as narrow favourites. The Hawks visits to Docklands are few and far between and they have lost both matches at the ground in 2019, failing to cover both times.
This is a great spot for the Roos to bounce back, but The Wolf has to back the team in better form, which is the Hawks. Losing to the second placed Lions is no disgrace and they will be desperate to keep their finals hopes alive with a win.
