Alone as the AFL’s only undefeated side through six rounds, Melbourne will attempt to maintain that position when facing Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
The Demons improved to 6-0 by defeating Richmond 76-54 at this venue last Sunday in a fixture which proved frustrating at times given they finished with 17 more scoring shots than their opposition.
Clayton Oliver completely dominated that matchup, recording 41 disposals, 22 contested possessions, 13 clearances and 10 score involvements.
Melbourne has now won 13 straight matches – the second-longest winning streak in club history.
Elsewhere, Hawthorn suffered a 109-68 loss to Sydney in Launceston despite kicking the first five goals of the match.
The Hawks were one of only five teams to avoid defeat against the Demons last season, holding the eventual premiers to a 79-79 draw in Round 18, during which Tom Mitchell recorded 39 disposals and a goal, earning him three Brownlow votes.
