Essendon is seeing its season slip away after consecutive losses. Despite being in seventh spot on the ladder and a game clear of the eighth placed Power, Essendon is far from a sure thing to play finals after their 96-point loss to the Dogs in round 21.
The Dons managed just one goal to three-quarter time, with the Bullies piling on 21 straight, the second most goals in an AFL match without reply in history. Essendon will have to overturn a poor interstate record and beat Freo to guarantee finals action in 2019.
The Dockers are another side suffering with injury issues and their finals chances are on life support after a three-point loss to the Saints last start.
In three visits to Optus Stadium, the Bombers have won just once. They lost to the Dockers by 16 points at the ground last season, but beat them by seven points in round 9 this season.
The Wolf can’t take the Bombers on the road with all their injury problems. Freo can give the home fans something to cheer about in their final home game of the campaign.
