The Swans have won three on the trot and will be looking to make it four when they travel to the MCG to play the Bombers. It’s back to back games at home against the league’s New South Wales clubs for Essendon, who staged a thrilling comeback against the Giants on Thursday night footy to win by a goal last round. Sydney struggled in the first half against the bottom-placed Suns but kicked away in the second half to win by 7 goals.
These two sides met in round eight this season at the SCG, when the Swans were in much worse form and pulled out a 5 point win. David Myers had a shot from outside 50 to win the game after the siren that was wayward, and of course who could forget that episode with Dane Rampe shaking the goal post! Memorable for all the wrong reasons.
The Swans best chance in this one is another long scoring match and with Lance Franklin sidelined, they will need other avenues to goal. This is Sydney’s first game at the MCG this season, while the Bombers are 3-3 at the home of footy. Matches involving Essendon at the ‘G have gone over the total points line just once in five meetings, but the Dons have covered the line in four of six matches. Since the start of the 2017 season, the Swans are 4-3 at the G, with matches going over just twice in seven occasions. The Wolf can see another low scoring match at the MCG on Saturday, but the Bombers will be just too good and back up their win against the Giants and lay claim to a top eight spot.
