Another good old fashioned grudge match is scheduled at the ‘G on Friday night between the Bombers and Blues.
Both sides are well-rested following the bye, but it’s no surprise to find Carlton at a very short quote coming off a heartbreaking loss to in-form Collingwood in Round 11.
While head coach Michael Voss would probably like to have that game back, he can hold his head high knowing his side won most of the key statistical categories before the Pies surged off a couple of late turnovers.
Essendon fans, meanwhile, are likely counting down the days to seasons end.
After qualifying for the finals last year, the Bombers have hands down been one of the biggest disappointments, capping off an ugly 0-4 start with three recent losses to Sydney, Richmond, and Port.
Ben Rutten has come under fire for his basic lack of a game plan, while the execution on the field has been poor to say the least.
These two sides have played out a couple of thrillers in recent years, but it’s hard to see the Bombers, a team that ranks third in average goals allowed, stopping a potent Blues forward line that features Coleman Medal favourite Charlie Curnow and current Brownlow favourite, Patrick Cripps.
