The final match of round 20 will have ramifications for both ends of the top eight when the Lions host the Dogs in Brisbane. Third-placed Brisbane can’t put a foot wrong at the minute, winning eight of their last 10 to sit in third spot on the ladder. Gunning for a top two finish, they will need to win and win well against the Dogs on Sunday if they hope to overtake the Eagles.
The up and down Dogs were back to their best last Sunday against the Dockers, thumping Ross Lyon’s side by 47 points and never looking troubled in the process. They are in 9th spot on the ladder, more than 10 per cent behind Adelaide, but equal on points.
The Dogs have dominated Brisbane in recent meetings, winning five in a row, but four of those wins were in Victoria. The Lions have won three of their past four against the Dogs in Brisbane.
Matches between these two sides have often been high scoring, with their round eight clash in Ballarat, which the Dogs won by 16 points, the first time since 2014 where neither side scored 100+ points. Look for another high scoring contest on Sunday afternoon, but in a match The Wolf thinks could go either way, take the Dogs and the points.
