Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide Power Preview
The second Showdown of the year looms large with so much at stake for both clubs.
On recent efforts, it feels as though the Crows deserve to play finals this year, but after another honourable loss to Melbourne at the ‘G last week, Matthew Nicks’ men find themselves six points adrift sitting 13th.
Port has also suffered a mini slide of late, losing back-to-back games to Carlton and Collingwood.
The Power lost no admirers, falling by two points to the heavy Premiership favourites in what was arguably the game of the year. But with a home final still on the line, winning over these next five weeks is paramount.
Crows fans can head to the Adelaide Oval with a smile knowing they won the first Showdown quite comfortably back in April, but it’s fair to say Port have been a different beast since then.
Connor Rozee and Zak Butters are playing some scintillating footy, complimented by a forward line that ranks third in points-per-game – largely thanks to the Power ranking first in inside 50 entries.
Of course, the Crows are more than capable of rivalling Port on the score sheet, if they can kick straight, that is.
Wayward shots on goal have been the biggest problem for Adelaide this year, as we saw last week when they booted a costly 13.15 in the loss to Melbourne.
At this point, it’s fair to wonder if this young Crows outfit has simply run out of steam this late in the year, but the trends do suggest another close one could be on the cards.
Adelaide has covered the line in nine of its last 10 games against opponents ranked higher on the ladder, so if they start on time and find some confidence in front of the sticks, the two-goal head start could prove very handy.
