Penrith Panthers vs Parramatta Eels Preview

The finals kick off in style when minor premiers the Penrith Panthers takes on the Parramatta Eels at the foot of the mountains. Given that the Eels have beaten the Panthers in each of their two previous meetings this season, this really does shape as an outstanding contest.

The Panthers have led the way all year. There was no hint of a Premiership hangover early, and I thought that they did an outstanding job of covering for the loss of their stars many times throughout the year, on their way to a deserved minor premiership. They are fitting favourites this week, and a good win here would be a genuine statement.

The Eels have been very inconsistent all year, but given they still managed to finish in the Top 4, all hope is clearly not lost. They’ve also been the Panthers’ bogey team – both wins over the league’s benchmark have been tough and impressive, and they will be quietly confident of a similar result this week.

I think that the Panthers will bring something new to the table this time, but I certainly don’t have as much between the two sides as the bookies do, and I therefore think that the value lies in backing the Eels to cover the line as outsiders.
