Richmond and GWS are neck and neck on the ladder and a win for either side will do plenty for their top four hopes. A loss and they will be a game further behind with just a handful of rounds remaining. The Tigers are coming off a season best 92-point win against the lowly Suns last weekend, while the Giants suffered their second loss on the trot in a 20-point loss to the Lions, in a game they never led in.
These sides have played a number of enthralling games in recent seasons, including a preliminary final in 2017. The Giants got the better of Richmond by 49 points in round 3, with Jeremy Cameron taking 12 shots at goal and kicking seven majors. Richmond is slowing regaining troops after the injury bug bit them hard in recent weeks and it’s paying dividends for them on the field. Richmond has a tough run home, with matches against the Giants, and three of the current top four to close out the season.
The Giants’ futility at the MCG has been well documented by The Wolf, but they did get the better of Melbourne in their last match at the home of footy. Overall though, the Giants are just 3-15 at the ‘G and lose by an average of 26 points in games at the venue. This season, the Tigers are 4-2 at the MCG, with both sides beating the starting line more often than not at 8-7 apiece. There is little to separate the two teams on paper, but Richmond is playing the better footy at present and has the benefit of home ground advantage. That counts for a couple of goals, so The Wolf is prepared to back them in at the line in this one.
