Port’s finals race might be well and truly run by the time they line up to play Freo on Sunday afternoon, with Port needing other results to go their way to stand a chance of playing in September.
They host a Dockers side that lost coach Ross Lyon on Tuesday, while the future of Power coach Ken Hinkley looks to be in jeopardy after he admitted on Tuesday that if Port don’t play finals, his time at Port will be up.
The Power didn’t turn up in a must-win game against North, losing by 86 points, despite being favourites. Freo also fell despite favouritism, losing by 32 points to the Bombers.
Freo has not had a good time of it at the Adelaide Oval, winning just once from eight starts, covering the line in just two of those games, with an average losing margin of more than six goals.
They are clearly a club in turmoil and why they didn’t choose to keep Ross Lyon until the end of the season is baffling. The Wolf thinks Port should roll over a dispirited Freo side in the final game of the home and away season.
