Brisbane Roar vs Perth Glory Preview

The Best of the Day preview breaks down a crunch A-League showdown in Redcliffe. A draw or a win will clinch Brisbane Roar’s spot in the finals. Perth Glory need to win both of their remain games to scrape into the playoffs.

The sixth-placed Roar have won six and drawn two of their last 11 games. But after back-to-back victories over the Jets (2-1) and ladder-leading Melbourne City (3-0) – with James O’Shea scoring three goals across the two wins – they went down 2-0 to Wanderers on Sunday.

Brisbane have a two-point break on Wellington, who only have one game left. But with a final-round fixture against Sydney FC to come, the Roar desperately want to come away from this match with something to show.

The Glory – four points adrift of the Roar – are on a six-match unbeaten run. Following four straight wins, they have recorded consecutive draws against Macarthur FC (1-1) and the Phoenix (2-2).

Perth fought back from a halftime deficit to lead Wellington at Eden Park but conceded in the 80th minute.

Bruno Fornaroli has scored in four of the Glory’s last six games.

The Glory are unbeaten in their last six against the Roar, winning four. If their only meeting so far this season, Perth powered to a 3-1 home victory in February. Diego Castro scored a goal in each half for the Glory either side of a Fornaroli strike, while Jack Hingert found the back of the net for the Roar.

The Roar are unbeaten in their last seven at home, though five finished in stalemates. The Glory, meanwhile, haven’t won on the road since February 5 – drawing three and losing two since.

But Perth have the recent form on the board to get excited about them as a $3.40 Best of the Day underdog.
