The Wests Tigers optimist is ignoring last weeks 30-12 loss to the Raiders. Adam Doueihi’s return to the side marks the true beginning of the 2021 NRL season. Although, there is a lot of pressure on the 22-year-old. Wests lacked creativity in attack in Round 1. Luke Brooks had a game to forget, but his job was made especially difficult with the lack of options around him. This week, he has his long-term halves partner and a fullback in Daine Laurie, who gave the Tigers faithful plenty to get excited about. He will be a lot better for the run this week.
The problem? This new-look Tigers spine is playing their first game together against one of the best-attacking sides in the NRL.
The Sydney Roosters hung 46 points on the Sea Eagles last week. Admittedly, Manly didn’t offer much in defence. But the Chooks made it look easy. Angus Crichton isn’t available for this one and the Roosters bench isn’t going to cause Michael Maguire any nightmares. However, James Tedesco and Luke Keary still command a dangerous backline while the go-forward and versatility of the forward pack is very much still a threat.
If Wests can keep a lid on Sydney early and look to expose the bench either side of halftime, we could be in for a fast finish. A fast start by the Roosters is a better bet, though.
