Wests Tigers vs Manly Sea Eagles Preview
Wests Tigers have five days to regroup from the abrupt end to Michael Maguire’s three-and-a-half year tenure, with Brett Kimmorley stepping into the caretaker hotseat. The final straw was the 3-9 Tigers’ 44-18 loss to Souths in Round 12 after leading at halftime.
Kimmorley has recalled winger David Nofoaluma, who was out of first grade for disciplinary reasons, while Jacob Liddle returns at hooker and Jock Madden grabs a spot on the bench.
Manly snapped a three-match losing streak and edged back up to 10th with an emphatic 44-12 defeat of the hapless Warriors – despite the absence of Daly Cherry-Evans. The Sea Eagles’ pack was utterly dominant with Haumole Olakau’atu the standout, while the spine of Croker, Foran, Schuster and Garrick shone brightly.
DCE is named to back up from Origin, which sees Schuster move back to the bench. Karl Lawton has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury in a cruel blow.
Manly registered its third straight win over Wests Tigers via a 36-22 result at home in Round 9. Cherry-Evans was the star that day, along with currently injured Ben Trbojevic and Croker.
The Tigers have lost four of their last five at Campbelltown. The coaching drama should have some sort of galvanising effect in the short term, but it’s unlikely to be enough to topple a Manly side that has won all six of its games against bottom-half opposition by an average margin of 16 points.
