The unfancied Titans have stormed into the Top 8 on the back of two upset wins and head to Newcastle in search of three straight victories away from the Gold Coast for the first time since 2020.

After an impressive 26-10 disposal of Manly in Sydney, the Titans turned on the flash against Parramatta at Magic Round and survived a late fight-back in a 26-24 victory.

Kieran Foran, Jayden Campbell, David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui all shone, while rookie wing flyer Alofiana Khan-Pereira underlined his talent with another scorching double.

Kruise Leeming returns to the bench in place of debutant Keano Kini in the Titans’ only change.

The Knights went into the Round 10 bye on a three-match losing streak and at a low ebb, with gritty performances and tight defeats giving way to a flaccid 43-12 loss at Parramatta in Round 9.

Kalyn Ponga’s struggles were cast under a harsh spotlight when previously the team’s unheralded spine players were earning big plaudits.

Phoenix Crossland will start at hooker with Kurt Mann sidelined, while Adam Elliott comes onto the bench for his first game since Round 1.

Honours were shared last season: Edrick Lee and Dom Young scored eight tries between them in a 38-12 Knights victory at home in Round 16, but the Titans turned the tables 36-26 in Round 24.

Now-Newcastle winger Greg Marzhew scored two tries in the latter match for Gold Coast.

The Knights are 2-2 at McDonald Jones Stadium in 2023 (including a golden point loss to Penrith), while the Titans are 2-1 in NSW this season.

Despite the Titans’ recent upswing, their defensive frailties remain and the refreshed Knights are good value to find a way at home in a pick ’em.
