Gold Coast and St George Illawarra square off for the second time in a month, with the Dragons aiming for something like a repeat of their 32-18 home win in Round 2. The Titans got out to an early 12-0 lead in that match before being overrun.

The 2-2 Titans had a bye following their 24-12 road loss to the Cowboys, but the break wasn’t enough to allow linchpins Kieran Foran and AJ Brimson to recover from injury. Toby Sexton and Jayden Campbell come into the starting spine. Sam Verrills is still sidelined, too.

The Titans remain an effervescent offensive side, but leaking points is still an Achilles heel: they’ve conceded 25 per game in 2023.

The Saints fell into a hole after beating the Titans, fading badly in the second half to concede 40 points to both the Broncos and Sharks. But they responded with an authoritative 38-12 win over a depleted Dolphins outfit in Wollongong with Ben Hunt, Moses Suli and Tyrell Sloan in great touch.

The Dragons have a 6-5 record against the Titans on the Gold Coast, but the Titans won their most recent home clash against the Saints 32-10 in 2021.

St George Illawarra still look a team that will get a pasting from the top six or eight teams in the NRL. But they have provided strong flat-track bully vibes already in 2023 and with Gold Coast missing three-quarters of their first-choice spine, it’s surprising to see the Dragons installed as outsiders.

A big display from in-form Titans forwards Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Moeaki Fotuaika gives them a chance, but expect Hunt to lead the Saints to victory.
