Canterbury Bulldogs vs Penrith Panthers Preview
There will be a few nervous Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs fans walking up to Bankwest Stadium this week. Their side failed to make the most of gaining an early lead and were made to look ordinary by the end of their 32-16 loss to the Knights. Corey Allan, Nick Cotric and Kyle Flanagan are all positive additions to the Doggies attack, but they won’t be effective until the pack lays a platform in front of them.
On the other hand, the Penrith Panthers made light work of the Cowboys to cruise to a 24-0 win. Only the Roosters and Titans run for more than the Panthers’ 1,956 metres in Round 1. Although, the 0 on last weeks scoreboard is the most worrying sign for the Bulldogs. Canterbury’s attack has been famously poor and is still among the worst in the NRL despite the offseason signings. It’s difficult to see them scoring enough points to keep this one close, let alone cause an upset.
This Penrith squad are proven regular-season performers. They’re not going to be caught short playing a side most expect them to handle comfortably. With Nathan Cleary starting the year well and the attack wasting no time in getting back into the flow of scoring points, it could be a rough second game in charge for Trent Barrett.
