Canterbury Bulldogs vs Melbourne Storm Preview

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are bad. Really bad. They’ve managed to go a third consecutive week without scoring a point in their 38-0 loss to the Rabbitohs. They’re now preparing to play a Melbourne Storm side that just hung 40 points on the Broncos in Round 4.

Trent Barrett is still tinkering with his side. His big-name centre signing Nick Cotric has been named on the wing. Meanwhile, his high-profile fullback recruit in Corey Allan will line up in the #4 jersey. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is being given yet another chance at the back in replacing Nick Meaney. In more positive news, Luke Thompson plays his first game in 2021 and Josh Jackson returns for this one. While Barrett tinkers, Craig Bellamy is bringing back Felise Kaufusi while Harry Grant may also return on Saturday.

Even a massive +27.5 head start doesn’t look like enough for the Bulldogs. Not with the way their attack is trending and the historical dominance of the Storm’s defence. Barrett can’t land on a backline and it shows in Canterbury’s inability to string together threatening sets in attack. On the other hand, Melbourne scored four tries in 11 minutes last week and could do the same on Saturday if they build similar momentum. There is little to like about the Bulldogs line up and Grant will only add more points to the Storm if he’s fit. This could get ugly.
