Preview:

Both teams finished with 6-7-1 records to edge the Scorchers and Heat for a spot in the playoffs.

The Hurricanes carved out an emphatic 57-run win over the Thunder last Friday at Blundstone Arena. Matthew Wade (56 off 34), Mac Wright (64 off 45) and George Bailey (29 off 10) lifted the ’Canes to an imposing 6/185. Thunder duo Alex Hales (63 off 42) and Alex Ross (36 off 27) were let down by the middle- and lower order, with their last six batsman dismissed for four or less as they crumbled to 128 all out.

Despite a second-ball duck, D’Arcy Short claimed man-of-the-match honours after taking 5/21. Daniel Sams picked up 4/34 for the Thunder.

The Thunder prevailed by four wickets at home two weeks earlier. George Bailey (43 off 30) top-scored in the Hurricanes total of 6/162. Alex Hales (55 off 36) and Alex Ross (32* off 22) spearheaded the Thunder’s successful chase.

Sydney nabbed their finals berth via a seven-wicket DLS win over the Scorchers on Australia Day. Hales (47 off 27) starred again after the Thunder were set a revised target of 96 from 12 overs.

Hobart clinched their spot later that day with a thriller 10-run win over the Strikers. Wade (130* off 61) carried his bat for the second-highest individual score in BBL history as the Hurricanes piled on 1/217. Short’s 72 off 55 was also hugely encouraging.

Hales has been magnificent, bat the Thunder need out-of-sorts veterans Usman Khawaja and Callum Ferguson to produce some runs. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are stacked with in-form batsmen.

The hosts look the goods here as $1.65 favourites. Skipper Wade – with 252 runs in their last three games – is sure to be at the forefront.
