Preview:

The Strikers may have a mental hurdle or two to overcome – this is their first outing since a comprehensive loss at The Gabba on Tuesday.

The Heat’s James Pattinson took 5/33 as the Strikers crumbled to 110 all out. Matt Renshaw (52* off 45) led Brisbane’s cruisy chase, the home side running down the target with seven wickets and 28 balls to spare.

It was Brisbane’s fourth win in five games and a strong bounce-back from their 34-run loss to the Scorchers. But the main takeaway for Heat fans was the BBL debut of AB de Villiers. The South African legend scored 40 off 32 balls and could spur this team to something special this season.

Adelaide, meanwhile, have now lost four of their last five. The absence of keeper-batsman Alex Carey on ODI duty is untimely for the sliding Strikers. But they did power to a 63-run win over the battling Renegades at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, with Jonathan Wells (58 off 38) starring.

The Heat will be aiming for a repeat of last season’s win at Adelaide Oval. Renshaw’s blistering 90* off 50 steered the Heat to a six-wicket win with eight balls left after the Strikers posted 176.

With de Villiers and Pattinson (and before long, Marnus Labuschagne) joining form trio Renshaw, Chris Lynn and Tom Banton, the Heat are set to finish the BBL regular season with a wet sail. Expect the $1.70 favourites’ roll to continue.
