Western Bulldogs vs GWS Giants Preview
It may not be a textbook rivalry, but make no mistake, there is no love lost between the Dogs and the Giants.
GWS’ recent six-game surge has seen them enter the finals fray, Adam Kingsley’s side knocking off the Suns in dominant fashion last week thanks to another masterclass from Toby Greene.
Scoring against the Giants has been a tough ask during this recent purple patch, GWS giving up less than 80 points in all six games – a worrying sign for a Bulldogs team that has struggled in front of goal all year.
Finally, the Dogs came good last week with a stirring 41-point win over Essendon, Luke Beveridge’s side showing some real poise with their forward half entries, as well as so much-needed pressure through the middle of the ground.
If they can build on that effort, there’s no telling how far the Dogs could go, and given the fact they’ve covered in six of their last seven games in Ballarat, it’s no surprise to find the Doggies as favourites.
Side by side, both teams boast a similar profile, but the Bulldogs do have a clear advantage when it comes to clearances and fewer turnovers.
The Giants look every bit a finals team, but with Bailey Smith back in form, and the Bont and the rest of the forward line starting to find some confidence, the Dogs to win a low-scoring game looks the play.
