The Dogs pulled off a big upset last weekend in Adelaide and will be looking to back that win up with another against-odds victory, this time against the premiership favourite Cats. A 25-point win in the wet was just what the doctor ordered for the Bullies, who just keep in touch with the top eight thanks to that win, their sixth of the season. Jack Macrae and Marcus Bontempelli were exceptional in trying conditions, with the Dogs leading at every change. The Cats put a shock loss to the Power behind them with a home win against the competition’s other South Australian side, the Crows, by 27 points.
In their round 9 meeting in Geelong, the Cats skipped away in the second half, booting 10 goals to six in a high scoring match. They had five multiple goal kickers in the 21 goal performance, their high goal tally and points tally of the season. Geelong has won four of its past five against the Dogs, with the ‘sons of the west’ taking last season’s only meeting by just 2 points in round 15. Their run home isn’t terrible, with upcoming matches against the Demons, Saints, Dockers and Lions offering the chance for them to make a late charge towards the finals. They are 7-7 against the line this season, while the Cats are a superior 8-5. Geelong is scoring on average, five more goals than its opponents this season and won its only match at Marvel Stadium by four goals.
The Wolf is backing the Cats to prevail, and given their strength in covering the line this season and winning five of their past six games by more than the 21.5 point starting handicap, they are the pick for this Marvel Stadium clash.
