Dogs fans must be pulling their hair out, with the sons of the west losing another game that on paper they should have won last week. A 27-point loss to the Saints adds to losses against the Suns and Blues this season as being results that will prove costly if they don’t make finals. In 12th place, the Dogs are just one game outside the eight, but they have the worst percentage of the three other teams above them on 32 points.
This weekend’s match up against the Dockers will be crucial for both sides, as there’s unlikely to be room for both in September.
Freo had lost four in a row prior to a one-point win against the Swans in a lower scoring match at Optus Stadium last weekend. They beat the Dogs by 19 points in their round six meeting, with captain Nat Fyfe’s 30 disposals a stand out performances in that clash.
The Dockers have lost their only game at Marvel Stadium this season to the Bombers, but covered the line. Overall, Freo is 8-9 against the spread. The Dogs have a 9-8 mark, but are 5-5 at Marvel Stadium.
The Wolf has said in the past that the Dogs are volatile favourites and a lot hinges on the availability of Fyfe in this one. Neither side lights the scoreboard up with regularity, so in what is likely to be a low scoring match, taking the points is a good option.
