West Coast Eagles vs North Melbourne Kangaroos Preview

Basement dwellers West Coast and North Melbourne cap off the round on Sunday in what is arguably one of the most intriguing games of the year.

With four points between them, the battle down the bottom is almost as fascinating as the one up the top, made even more unpredictable following North Melbourne’s close shave last week against St Kilda.

As for West Coast, not much has changed.

A 71-point defeat to Carlton was the latest in a long list of beltings last week, but given North Melbourne’s ability to play even the worst forward lines back into form, who knows how this one might play out.

Playing on the road has also been a huge problem for the Roos and interim coach Brett Ratten. At Marvel, the Kangas have been a tough out, but away from home, they’ve given up an average of 16 goals to opponents.

Having only kicked as many as 14 in the win over the Giants back in Round 2, Eagles fans can only dream of coming close to that number – but if Adam Simpson chooses to play attacking footy for a change, maybe we’ll see some fight from the wooden spoon favourites.

On the other side, Nick Larkey remains one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition, and after Charlie Curnow’s 10-goal bag last week, there’s a good chance we see the big man kick a bag.

With all that in mind, the Over seems the best play in a game that might be entertaining – even if it is for the wrong reasons.
