The pressure cooker has been turned up a notch at Tigerland.
Last week’s shocking loss to the bottom-feeding Kangaroos has cast several doubts over Richmond’s finals chances, but there’s still plenty of time to make amends, starting with a convincing win over Fremantle on Friday night.
Likewise, the Dockers have just as much to prove on the back of their own disappointing loss to the Swans.
Fremantle kicked themselves out of the game after leading convincingly at half-time, and there are now concerns on the personnel front with Rory Lobb suffering a shoulder injury.
The Tigers have some injury concerns to monitor themselves with Dustin Martin and Tom Lynch’s status still up in the air, while there may be much bigger problems happening off the field with Damien Hardwick’s side lacking effort and discipline in the first half last week.
Fans may remember these two sides meeting around the same time last year, a game Freo won by four points in a low-scoring thriller.
The Tigers had won the previous four meetings up until that point, but after failing to punish the Suns and the Roos on the scoreboard in back-to-back weeks, it’s hard to feel confident in Richmond – especially with four straight losses at Marvel now to their name.
On the flip side, Freo has been an excellent bounce-back bet over the last calendar year, playing to a 6-2 record overall and a 5-3 mark at the line.
Given their defensive efficiency and the fact they held the Tigers to 51 points when they last met, Freo looks good value in early betting.
