Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats Preview
There’s still plenty of footy left to play, but the Power are really starting to stake a claim as a genuine flag threat.
A 10th straight win over the Dogs last week has put the rest of the league on notice, and it’s fair to say Port will be out to make another statement on Thursday against the reigning premier – a team they tasted defeat against twice last year.
The Cats also took care of the Dogs before last week’s bye, a dreaded spot on Geelong’s fixture for the better part of the last decade.
Chris Scott’s side won following the bye last year, but for any number of reasons, the week off has typically been a sore point on Geelong’s schedule.
Aside from the past, this is also a must-win game for the Cats with the bottom half of the eight still wide-open.
Injuries are partly to blame, but the Cats have really struggled to find points at times this year, even with Jeremy Cameron in Coleman Medal-winning form.
The run through the middle has also been a problem for Scott, an area that could cost them against a Port Adelaide side that arguably boasts the most dangerous and improved midfield in the competition.
Zak Butters and Connor Rozee are in career-best form, while as a unit, the Power do a fantastic job of taking care of the footy, hitting targets, and most importantly, landing tackles.
You could argue the bye is exactly what the Cats may have needed, but at home with a chance to really prove a point, it’s tough to fault the Power.
