Brisbane Lions vs Sydney Swans Preview
A trip back home to the Gabba might be just what the doctor ordered for the Lions this week.
Brisbane turned in a sluggish and lackluster effort last week against Hawthorn, a side they clearly underestimated before suffering what was arguably one of the biggest upsets of the season.
The Lions were on the backfoot early in the 25-point defeat, the forward line struggling to create opportunities at times, and several key players failing to man up and match Hawthorn’s intensity.
Ironically, the same can almost be said for Sydney’s effort last Thursday.
The Swans ran out 14-point losers to the Saints in an ugly game of footy, a poor result for a club not only celebrating Buddy Franklin’s milestone, but also playing for its season.
Scoring goals has been a huge problem for Sydney at times this season, evident last week with ample opportunities inside 50m, but only 66 points to show for it.
On the opposite end, the Swans rank top five in goals allowed, a huge danger sign going up against a Lions team that has scored 12 or more goals in every single home game this year.
The question marks over Brisbane right now are warranted, but bouncing back from a previous defeat has been the one constant during Chris Fagan’s time as coach.
Dating back to last season, the Lions are 6-2 following a loss, making them worthy short-priced favourites against a Sydney team that just hasn’t fired this year.
