Melbourne Demons vs Fremantle Dockers Preview

Ah, Melbourne. The most tortured fans in the AFL went through even more pain on Thursday night when, going in as $1.35 favourites against the lowly Swans, were on the cusp of sealing a finals spot. Their pre-season documentary titled ‘To hell and back’ inferred — after a shambolic 2019 — they’d be back in the finals in 2020. But as they’ve done so many times, they didn’t bring it when it counted, and went on to lose in the round’s biggest upset. Now, they’re far less certain $2.20 finals hopes with Palmerbet. The loss was compounded with injuries to Angus Brayshaw and Nathan Jones, and it’s not known whether they’ll get up for this one.

For the Dockers, there’s little to play for here other than continual progression forward with a young side under Justin Longmuir. After another solid outing against the Tigers on Wednesday night, young midfielder Caleb Serong has shortened further in the AFL Rising Star market, now into $2.00 with Palmerbet.

Given what’s on the line, I’m opting for the Dees. But I wouldn’t write off Freo in a close one either, therefore will be using my Game Saver in this one.
