Could last weekend’s gutsy win against the Pies turn the Hawks’ season around? That will be the question in round 17 when they travel down to their home away from home in Launceston to play the Dockers in a must-win clash. The Hawks recovered from a three goal deficit to boot four goals in a row in the final term to shock the Pies by four points in round 16. Fremantle, coming off a loss to Carlton in round 15, were hammered by 91 points to the Eagles in the Derby and have slipped down to 11th on the ladder.
These two sides last met in round 19 last season, where the Hawks triumphed by 59 points. Brownlow winner Tom Mitchell was sublime with 42 touches, with Luke Breust kicking a game-high four goals. The Dockers have never won in Launceston, going 0-4 in the past decade at the ground.
Fremantle have been a good bet for much of the season, particularly as underdogs, which they find themselves ahead of this one. They are mixed against the handicap at 8-7, with the Hawks much poorer at 5-10. Hawthorn has won both of its games in Launceston this season by an average of three goals, and have scored 10 more points per game in Tasmania than at all of the other grounds they have played at this season. The Wolf is big on backing the Hawks in Tasmania, as they’ve lost just five of their past 38 games in Apple Isle and they should add another notch to their belt on Saturday.
