Of the bottom four teams on the ladder, the Hawks have hands down been the most impressive.

Many had Hawthorn penciled in as wooden spoon certainties at the beginning of the year, but with wins over Brisbane, Collingwood, and the Bulldogs, the future looks very bright for the brown and gold.

A third consecutive win got away from Sam Mitchell’s side last week against the Dees, but as we’ve come to expect, the Hawks through everything at Melbourne in spite of a few key injuries.

Fremanlte also handed in a respectable performance at home against Port Adelaide, but a win – and ultimately a late finals charge – wasn’t meant to be in the 16-point defeat.

The Dockers ran out massive 69-point winners when these two sides met back in Round 8, but a few key outs, and more importantly, a big key in for Hawthorn makes this a fascinating match up.

In unfortunate news, Jaeger O’Meara is set to miss this clash against his former club with a calf injury, while the Hawks are set to receive a big boost through the midfield with Jai Newcombe back from a hamstring issue.

On their day, Hawthorn’s run through the centre of the ground has been tough to stop, making this a complicated assignment for a Freo side that failed to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

With Jye Amiss less than 100 percent, and Michael Walters set to test his fitness, the Hawks look a nice bet to end the season on a high note with plenty of optimism heading into next year.
