GWS Giants vs Essendon Bombers Preview

The respective positions of these two teams on the ladder tells you all you need to know heading into Saturday’s clash.

Occupying 9th and 10th, the Giants and Bombers have everything to play for over the final two rounds, but based on recent form, neither inspires a ton of confidence when it comes to betting or tipping.

To be fair, GWS has played a much tougher quality of opponent over the last two weeks, suffering a pair of losses to the Swans and Port Adelaide.

Essendon, meanwhile, has enjoyed the rub of the green with two favourable match ups against West Coast and North Melbourne, but given the Dons have won each by only single digits, it’s hard to find faith in Brad Scott’s club.

That said, the Bombers prevailed by 13 points when they met the Giants earlier in the year, and there could be some good news on the injury front with key names like Jake Stringer, Sam Draper, and Dylan Shiel a chance at returning.

The Giants could also welcome back Finn Callaghan, a huge boost to the wing after struggling for points in recent weeks.

The Bombers haven’t tasted a road win over GWS since 2018, but with some key reinforcements returning in the nick of time, they appear a little hard done by in the market.
