Geelong Cats vs Western Bulldogs Preview
Round 14 begins with the second-placed Western Bulldogs travel down the road to old sleepy hollow, GMHBA Stadium to take on third-placed Geelong in front of nobody, hardly a fitting backdrop for a top-of-the-table blockbuster clash.
What a depressing sight it will be to see this potential finals preview played in front of empty stands when it didn’t need to be.
Geelong’s home ground advantage is important, but to deny this game to the crowd, even if it were just a small one interstate, is a crying shame.
Footy played in front of nobody, let alone any sport when it doesn’t need to be the case is depressing and just feels wrong.
I know that senior Victorian health officials are avid readers of the Neds footy tips and preview every week and should really consider allowing some fans in to give this game the dignity it deserves.
This almost got me to consider no crowd, no bet, but given my need to get back on the winners’ list, there must be some value for the punters.
Now that I’ve gotten the editorial out of the way, this game should be a cracking contest.
Geelong’s forward line really found their mojo last week against Port and the Dogs will be out to prove they can match it against fellow top-four aspirants, after a disappointing performance against the Dees but were able to back it up and get the job done over Freo.
The combination of Jeremy Cameron, Tom Hawkins, and Gary Rohan proved their worth last week, and Geelong should be able to make the most of its dynamic forward line.
We’ve got to keep it simple here.
Nine times out of 10, you simply don’t tip against the Cats down at Kardinia Park, and I won’t, however the Dogs should be competitive in this game, so play the margins and take the Cats at 1-39 points.
