Three weeks ago, reigning premiers Melbourne appeared unbeatable, but a couple of convincing losses to the Dockers and the Swans has helped turn the competition completely upside down.

As for Collingwood, it’s been quite the opposite.

The Pies have surged into the top eight on the back of three consecutive wins, starting with a blowout victory over Fremantle, a thrilling win over Carlton, and an all-time classic victory over the Hawks last week.

Craig McRae’s side has every right to feel confident heading into this week’s clash against the reigning champs, especially after they beat the Dees by 17 points when they met this time last year.

If the Pies are to pull off another upset though, they’ll need to bring the same pressure we’ve seen over the last month.

Collingwood’s tackling has been immense during this recent winning streak, a tactic that will go a long way to silencing Melbourne’s elite midfield.

That said, the Dees losing three games in a row still feels almost unfathomable.

The inclusion of Steven May should go a long way down back, while the addition of Sam Weideman should take some of the pressure off a forward line that has struggled to take a mark inside 50 over the last two weeks.

Overall, there’s no doubt this is a huge litmus test for the Pies, and there’s a case to be made for them at least keeping thing close. But with a huge crowd expected, the Dees should bounce back.
