Collingwood Magpies vs Adelaide Crows Preview

The Pies return from the bye on Sunday having spent the extra week reflecting on their narrow Round 13 loss to Melbourne.

Collingwood’s eight-game winning streak was snapped in a low-scoring affair at the MCG, but Craig McRae and company should feel confident heading their second clash with the Crows after prevailing by a single point at the Adelaide Oval back in Round 7.

The Crows, meanwhile, are looking to hang in the eight coming off a percentage-boosting win over West Coast a fortnight ago.

Matthew Nicks’ side has endured its fair share of troubles in front of goal, but that hasn’t stopped Adelaide ranking top five in points, as well as tackles, clearances, and hit outs.

Like we saw in April, this should be another thriller between two genuine contenders, but the Pies do have a few injury concerns to address.

Jamie Elliott is set to test his shoulder during training, while Dan McStay is set for a stint on the sideline.

On a positive note, Jeremy Howe is available after breaking his arm back in Round 1 – a defensive inclusion that could prove pivotal considering the Crows are coming off a whopping 122-point win over the Eagles.

It goes without saying that Collingwood is the benchmark side in the competition, and although they had some troubles with turnover and winning the clearances against the Dees, they should be out to prove a point on the scoreboard.

The Crows, on the other hand, have won only one game on the road all year, while they’ve also surrendered an average of 13 goals to opponents on the road.

With both sides fresh, this could be a high-scoring game – one that could see Collingwood really make a statement.
