Brisbane and the Western Bulldogs will play out a heavyweight semi-final at the Gabba on Saturday night.

At the midway point of 2021, it wouldn’t have been surprising if this had been the Grand Final matchup.

However, after each suffering dips in form, the Lions and Bulldogs ended the home & away season fourth and fifth, separated by just 0.5%.

Their solitary matchup this season wasn’t quite as close, seeing the Dogs run out 73-54 winners at Mars Stadium, led by a combined five goals from 13 scoring shots from Aaron Naughton and Tim English.

Alongside Cody Weightman (four goals) and Tom Liberatore (35 disposals), Naughton (three goals, four contested marks) was again influential en route to the Dogs’ 85-36 elimination final victory against Essendon.

Elsewhere, Brisbane fell 93-60 to Melbourne at the Adelaide Oval. The Lions are now 6-7 away from the Gabba this season, compared to 9-1 at their home venue.
