After a string of tight wins, they pumped the Victory 3-0 in a one-sided Big Blue showdown in Melbourne last week. Adam le Fondre edged in front in the competition’s goalscoring race with his 14th of the season.
Brisbane Roar, meanwhile, have turned their season around with a five-match unbeaten streak. Back-to-back 1-0 wins over Wellington and Central have pushed the Roar up to seventh spot. They remain among the league’s least potent offensive units, but the defensive steel that mark the initial part of Robbie Fowler’s tenure has returned.
Brisbane have managed to pick up two upset wins from their last five encounters with Sydney. But the Sky Blues kicked off the 2019-20 series between the clubs with a ruthless 5-1 beat-down at home last month. Adam le Fondre bagged a hat-trick, while the Roar only got on the board via a 95th-minute penalty.
