Melbourne City crashed 3-1 in Adelaide last Saturday – their fifth loss of the season – and they now sit just one point above Perth, who have a game in hand. The ninth-placed Victory conceded an agonising 90th-minute goal to the Glory in a 2-all away draw, following on from three straight losses. Nevertheless, it was a much-improved performance from Marco Kurz’s side after being held scoreless in their previous two outings.
After three straight draws between the crosstown rivals, the Victory bagged a 2-1 win over City FC in December. Curiously, the Melbourne outfit listed as the away team has lost just one of the last 13 derbies. None of the last 13 clashes produced more than three goals.
City have been the more consistent side this season and are deserving favourites, but it may pay to have something on another stalemate.
