Preview:

This will be a telltale year for Australian Daniel Ricciardo with a potential move to Mercedes or Ferrari on the cards in 2021.

Things couldn’t have gone any worse last year where he failed to finish not only in his home Grand Prix but also in Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Germany, Russia and Japan. When things did go right however, Ricciardo finished inside the points eight times.

Renault isn’t regarded as a threat this year, but they could pose a real challenge to the likes of McLaren and Racing Point in the middle of the pack. Ricciardo and rookie teammate Esteban Ocon are considered one of (if not the most) talented tandem in Formula One, so if the cars can hold up, a double points finish isn’t entirely out of the question.

The dominance of Mercedes last season makes it tricky to find value in the market, but the one outlier could be rookie Alexander Albon.

The 23-year-old is entering his first full season at Red Bull after replacing Pierre Gasly ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix last year, and many around Formula One feel as though Red Bull is the biggest threat to Mercedes following Ferrari’s engine controversy leading into the season.

Max Verstappen and Hamilton have had some famous battles already, but without a podium finish to his name, what’s to say Albon can’t make a name for himself in the first race of the year?
