Sydney Roosters’ season keeps stalling just when they appear to be gathering some momentum. The Tricolours’ season-best 36-16 win over Cronulla in Round 12 was bookended by disappointing losses to Penrith (32-12) and Canberra (22-16).

Joey Manu was enormous at fullback against the Raiders but NSW captain James Tedesco has been named to return, along with Queensland prop Lindsay Collins.

Melbourne’s Origin contingent of Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi, Xavier Coates and Harry Grant has been named to play. Nelson Asofa-Solomona also returns but Ryan Papenhuyzen remains out with Nick Meaney doing a decent job in the custodian role.

The injury-hit Storm bounced back from their twin heavy losses to the Panthers and Cowboys with a Munster-led 28-8 defeat of the Sea Eagles in Round 12, hanging onto second spot on the ladder in the process.

The Storm are on a four-match winning run against the Roosters, owning the heavyweight rivalry in 2021 with a 20-4 win at home in Round 4 and a 46-0 demolition at Newcastle in Round 16.

The Roosters’ fortunes hinge on halves Luke Keary and Sam Walker finding some 80-minute cohesion – which they’ve managed against middling opposition but have struggled with against in-form sides.

Jahrome Hughes and Brandon Smith will look to drive the Origin-burdened Storm, who are well-versed at navigating this difficult period of the season and are deserving favourites at the SCG, where the Roosters have won just two of their last six.
