After mentioning “Souths look ready to blow if they’re given the conditions and opposition to run riot” last week, they thrashed the Bulldogs 38-0 in Round 4. In all honesty, the win could have been by more. The Brisbane Broncos, on the other hand, are flattered by their 40-6 loss to the Storm. They may have kept the Storm scoreless for 25 minutes, but the Broncos weren’t in the game even at 0-0.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are without Cody Walker and Keaon Koloamatangi this week – both suspended. In their place comes Benji Marshall and Jacob Host. Meanwhile, Kevin Walters has been forced into changes, although he’d like to have made more if he could. Herbie Farnworth is unavailable with Ritchie Kennar coming into the centres. With Patrick Carrigan suspended, Tevita Pangai Jr has been named at lock. It’s by accident, but Walters has landed on his best pack.

Walker’s absence is big for the Rabbitohs but not game-defining. They still have the quality in attack to score points, and if anybody can slot into a side and perform to Wayne Bennett’s game plan, it’s Marshall. While the Broncos haven’t scored many points in 2021, expect an improvement sooner rather than later. This is their best pack, and it should give Anthony Milford and Tom Dearden something to work with. The result isn’t in doubt: Souths are clear favourites and will get the job done. The question is, by how much?
