Penrith Panthers vs Manly Sea Eagles Preview

The reigning premiers have the honour of opening the 2022 season at home against one of their predicted challengers in the Manly Sea Eagles.

Manly fell one step short of its first Grand Final berth since 2013 last season but will be confident of taking that extra step in 2022, with a similar squad and arguably the most dominant player in the league fresh off winning both the Brad Fittler and Dally M medals.

On the other hand, Penrith Panthers star and reigning Clive Churchill medallist, Nathan Cleary, will be sidelined for at least the first three weeks of their premiership defence as they opt to take a cautious approach to his offseason shoulder surgery.

Replacing Cleary will be Sean O’Sullivan as he makes his club debut.

Manly has named a strong lineup with Haumole Olakau’atu recovering in time to take his spot in the second row, although Dylan Walker will be missing.
