The New Zealand Warriors completed the NRL’s only upset last week in beating the Gold Coast Titans. No other underdog covered the spread let alone won their match straight up. However, Euan Aitken has been ruled out for up to ten weeks while Wayde Egan is once again in doubt. Like last week, the prospect of Jazz Tevaga playing at hooker for any longer than he needs to greatly reduces their chances in this one.

The Newcastle Knights, meanwhile, looked a lot better side with Jayden Brailey on the field. He provides qualities behind the ruck that weren’t often present at the Knights last season. As a result, this hard-running pack that has always focused on one-pass hitups is being put into good positions on the field and being provided with good service. They laid a platform last week, and despite the attack taking a little while to get going, eventually started to pile up the points in their 32-16 win.

While the Warriors impressed with a Round 1 victory, they didn’t blow an average Knights side off the park. Their attack remains a concern and even more so if Tevaga is the first option at hooker. It may take a little while for the Knights pack to assert their authority, but in what looks like a close game that will go down to the wire, it’s the area of the field that will get them over the line.
