New Zealand Warriors vs Melbourne Storm Preview

The New Zealand Warriors dropped two points when they gave Valentine Holmes a shot at the posts in the final minute of their 29-28 Round 12 loss to the Cowboys. It’s a result that came down to poor coaching and poor execution late. The Melbourne Storm, on the other hand, have the best in the business in the coaches box and just executed well enough to beat the Titans last week.

Addin Fonua-Blake looks set to return for the Warriors. Bailey Sironen, Josh Curran, Rocco Berry and Edward Kosi are all confirmed for Sunday but Reece Walsh is out due to suspension. Craig Bellamy has named his Origin players to back up but is rarely against resting those that need it. He has lost Nelson Asofa-Solomona after he failed to have his charge downgraded on Tuesday night, though.

Fonua-Blake’s inclusion will be huge for the Warriors and Reece Walsh’s absence is likely to be grossly overstated. After all, the Warriors are replacing Walsh with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck at fullback. Still, the Storm look too strong here. Even with Origin players out and others missing to injury and suspension, they continue to play with one of the best defences in the NRL. They’re exceptionally well-drilled and every player knows the defensive system each and every week. While their attack did suffer in Round 13, that hasn’t been the case very often this season. They’ve played a lot of football without Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Ryan Papenhuyzen and still piled up points. Given the issues the Warriors have in defence, and considering that Fonua-Blake’s return won’t help much in that department, the Storm look good to score a few on Sunday.
