Cronulla Sharks vs Manly Sea Eagles Preview

The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks pushed the Storm a lot further than their 34-18 final defeat suggests in Round 6. Meanwhile, the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles picked up another Tom Trbojevic-less win with a 26-18 victory over the Titans.

Dale Finucane and Braden Hamlin-Uele miss this one for the Sharks. Cameron McInnes starts at lock and Aiden Tolman into prop. Sione Katoa and Briton Nikora also make their return. Morgan Harper is back for the Sea Eagles with Tolutau Koula to the reserves. Josh Aloiai’s injury has ruled him out bringing Ethan Bullemor back into the 17.

The Sharks weren’t that far off last week. Sione Katoa could well have pulled them to within a try or two of the Storm if he was available. Regardless of the result, they look like one of the best teams in the NRL right now and will be eager to prove as much in this one. While Trbojevic remains sidelined, the Sea Eagles have impressed without him. They’re beginning to find ways to score without relying on their fullback with Daly Cherry-Evans and Haumole Olakau’atu, in particular, linking up exceptionally well. The expectation is for this one to be close. Both sides work well through the middle and Cameron McInnes v Jake Trbojevic poses as one of the more unexpected exciting battles this season. That ball-playing will test the edge defences where the Sharks have an advantage. It’s been an area of concern for the Sea Eagles all season and few teams are better at exposing dodgy edge defences than the Sharks.
