Canterbury Bulldogs vs St George Illawarra Dragons Preview

The jokes flew throughout Round 13 as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs battled it out with the bye to claim two competition points. The St. George-Illawarra Dragons didn’t need to work much harder for their two points as they hammered the Broncos 52-24.

Jeremy Marshall-King is back in the #9 jersey for the Bulldogs this week. Sione Katoa will take his place on the bench. Anthony Griffin has the luxury of naming the same 17 that thrashed the Broncos with Tariq Sims a chance at coming in from the reserves list.

The Dragons looked excellent last week. Sure, it came against an U20s-like defence, but they had to make the plays and make the plays they did. Matthew Dufty, in particular. He hasn’t – and won’t – he able to do that very often against the top sides, but the Bulldogs aren’t a top side. With Canterbury’s issues defending on the edge and the lack of mobility they display through the middle, Dufty will be licking his lips and out to add a few more highlights to his 2022 contract audition tape on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs simply don’t have the points in them to keep up. Averaging 11.2 points per game throughout 2021, they’re the worst attacking side in the NRL. Meanwhile, the Dragons are up at 22.5 points per game and that could soon increase given what we saw out of Jack de Belin last week. He slot straight into their attack with his ball-playing at the line opening things up for Dufty and Ben Hunt in good ball areas. The Dragons need a win to keep their place in the Top 8. They surely don’t let these gift two competition points slip.
